Eulexin (FLUTAMIDE) is used along with drugs such as Lupron to treat prostate cancer. Eulexin (FLUTAMIDE) belongs to a class of drugs known as antiandrogens. It blocks the effect of the male hormone testosterone. Giving Eulexin (FLUTAMIDE) with Lupron, which reduces the body's testosterone levels, is one way of treating prostate cancer. For some forms of prostate cancer, radiation therapy is given along with the drugs.

Common uses

This medicine is an anti-androgen used in combination with another medicine to treat prostate cancer.

Before using

Warning: this medicine may cause serious, even life-threatening liver problems. Tell your doctor if you have a history of liver disease. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, fever, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, or unusual fatigue. Laboratory tests (e.g., liver function tests) should be performed before and during use of this drug. Your doctor will be monitoring your treatment closely. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions or allergies.

Directions

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. Store this medicine at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions

Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor. Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are being treated with this medicine. This medicine may cause diarrhea. Do not use laxatives while using this medicine, unless directed by your doctor. If diarrhea occurs, ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a treatment for you.
Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with doctor or pharmacist.

Possible side effects

Side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include hot flashes, decreased sexual drive or ability, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or enlarged breasts. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience the following side effects or symptoms of toxicity: severe diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach pain, extreme fatigue, muscle aches or soreness, brown urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.


If you take too much

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include loss of appetite, vomiting, slow breathing, decreased activity, and trouble walking.

Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
